Bahrain

Bahrain is actively advancing its infrastructure and economic diversification efforts in 2024–2025, aligning with its Vision 2030 strategy. The country also maintains a structured framework for importing technology goods, ensuring compliance and efficiency.

Importing technology products into Bahrain requires adherence to specific regulations and documentation:

1. Documentation:

  • Commercial Invoice: Original and copies detailing product description, value, and origin.
  • Packing List: Itemized list of the shipment's contents.
  • Certificate of Origin: Authenticated by the relevant authorities.
  • Bill of Lading or Airway Bill: Required for all shipments.

2. Regulatory Approvals:

  • Testing and Metrology Directorate: Certain products, especially electrical appliances, require approval to ensure compliance with Bahraini standards.
  • Labeling Requirements: Products must have labels in Arabic or both Arabic and English, as per Bahraini legislation.

3. Customs Procedures:

  • Customs Declaration: Importers or their agents must complete a customs bill of entry before importing goods.
  • Clearing Agent: Utilizing a registered, licensed clearing agent is recommended to expedite import procedures.

4. Importer of Record (IOR):

  • For dual-use or sensitive technology items, appointing an IOR is essential to manage compliance and customs clearance.

5. Customs Duties:

  • A standard customs duty rate of 5% applies to most imports, in line with the GCC Customs Union agreement.
  • Bahrain's strategic location and ongoing infrastructure projects present opportunities for technology businesses, provided they navigate the import regulations diligently.
