Case Study: Expertly importing equipment into Hong Kong for US tech company
Released On 18th Dec 2025
Client: US company supplying tech goods into datacentres
Project value: $1 million
Objectives: To provide Importer of Record (IOR) services and obtain expert documentation and licencing support for a company wishing to import network technology into Hong Kong.
The challenge
Hong Kong maybe a small region but moving goods into the country comes with many challenges – including complex documentation.
Our client needed help to import a high-value shipment of network servers, switches and peripherals into Hong Kong. Due to the type of goods being shipped, it required a TID import licence to do so.
The Trade and Industry Department (TID) import licence is an official Hong Kong government permit which allows controlled goods to enter the region. Applying for the licence requires careful document management and risk assessments.
Mouse & Bear were approached to act as Importer of Record and simplify the process by handling all the documentation in order to import the goods quickly, legally and safely.
Our solution
Our team worked closely with the client – and our dedicated local agent in Hong Kong – to manage the import process and license application.
Before shipment, we shared the commercial invoice and data sheets with our agent to assess if a TID licence was required. Once confirmed, we collected all the necessary documents to apply for the licence, including:
- Commercial invoice
- Packing list
- Airwaybill
- Copy of the CCATs
- Datasheets
- Completed SC037 sheet
We then applied for the TID licence, ensuring it was approved before the shipment departed.
When the goods arrived in Hong Kong, we were informed of a change in delivery requirements and responded quickly to arrange a white-glove delivery instead, which includes the unloading and positioning of goods as well as removal all the packaging.
The client approved the revised costs and their own POD documentation was used to complete delivery.
The results
With our support, all required documentation was submitted correctly and the TID import licence was approved within just 7 days.
The high-value shipment was imported and cleared without any delays or compliance issues and the white-glove delivery was successfully executed, despite the last-minute change.
By managing the customs process and adapting quickly to changing delivery requirements, Mouse & Bear ensured the client’s tech goods reached their destination smoothly and on time!
