Conquering the Devon Coast-to-Coast Challenge: 51.97 Miles in 19:57:37 Hours
Released On Today
When we signed up for the Walk Devon 2026 Coast-to-Coast 2026 challenge for The Devon Clinic, we knew it would test us physically and mentally. What we didn’t fully appreciate was just how demanding—and rewarding—the whole experience would be.
Starting in Westward Ho and finishing in Paignton, the route took us across some of Devon’s most beautiful and varied landscapes. From rugged coastal paths and rolling countryside to challenging climbs and long stretches of open terrain, every mile brought something new.
We didn’t quite make the finish line, but we did cover an incredible 51.97 miles in 19 hours, 57 minutes and 37 seconds, walking through the night. It will remain as one of the hardest things either of us has ever done.
The challenge wasn’t just about distance. It was about perseverance. There were moments when fatigue set in, when our feet were sore, and when the finish line felt impossibly far away. What kept us moving was the shared determination to complete the journey together, one step at a time.
Along the way, we experienced the best of what events like this can offer: stunning scenery, a sense of adventure, and the encouragement of fellow participants and volunteers. Every checkpoint felt like a small victory, and every mile completed gave us the motivation to tackle the next.
Reaching BoneHill Rocks (CP: 5 or 7) after more than nineteen hours on our feet was an unforgettable moment. Looking back, the challenge pushed us far beyond our comfort zones and proved that we were capable of more than we thought possible.
For anyone considering taking on the Devon Clinic Devon Coast-to-Coast challenge in the future, our advice is simple: prepare well, trust the process, and keep putting one foot in front of the other.
We have already registered for the 2027 challenge with the brute force determination to complete the full 69 mile/111km route! Watch this space..,,,
