The challenge

Romania is a developing market which has attracted significant foreign investment in automotive manufacturing, information technology and – more recently – data centre development.

An IT technology finance company needed to import equipment into a newly built data centre in Romania to support their customers.

However, neither the technology company nor the data centre had a legal entity in the country. Without a local entity, neither party were able to act as the Importer of Record (IOR) for the shipment.

Mouse & Bear were brought in to provide specialist IOR support, acting as the legal entity and taking responsibility for the shipment to ensure it passed customs and reached its end destination quickly and seamlessly.

Our solution

We took responsibility for the import process and coordinated the requirements needed to ensure the technology could enter Romania compliantly.

Before the equipment was shipped, we identified and ensured the necessary licenses and permits were in place and all duties had been paid. We also reviewed and submitted the required documentation in plenty of time to ensure a smooth customs process.

Once the equipment arrived in Romania, we maintained communication with the relevant parties on the import and customs clearance process, providing the client with timely updates throughout.

While the goods were still undergoing customs clearance, we arranged the delivery time slot and secured the required ticket numbers with the data centre.

This meant the final delivery was organised in advance and the equipment could be transported to the data centre as soon as it was released by customs.

The results

By acting as the client's Importer of Record, we helped the technology company to import their equipment into Romania despite having no local legal entity.

From start to finish, we maintained regular communication with the client and managed all of the necessary arrangements before and during importation.  

This allowed the equipment to move through customs swiftly and be delivered to the newly built data centre without any unnecessary delays.
