The challenge
Uganda has been experiencing strong economic growth in recent years, driven by investments in energy, transport and oil production. As a result, technology imports into the country have also increased.
Our client required a high-value order of servers and switches to be shipped to Uganda.
However, errors in the shipping process meant it had arrived in neighbouring Kenya by mistake! Consequently, this resulted in additional costs for the supplier and project delays for the end user.
Mouse & Bear were brought in to correct this error with as little delay as possible – working with multiple agencies in Kenya and Uganda to provide specialist Exporter of Record (EOR) and Importer of Record (IOR) support.
Our solution
Importing technology into Uganda requires several regulatory approvals, including compliance with the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) programme.
A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) was needed to adhere to this, which our agent applied for on behalf of the client.
Following approval, we handled all subsequent documentation and compliance checks needed for a quick, safe and legal import process.
To ensure we had complete control over the shipment, we also arranged freight, delivery and the collection of the goods.
However, once the goods had been collected, a stock check was carried out and it was found that not all items had been handed over by the shipper.
We relayed this back to the client, and once confirmed, we proceeded with the import process into Uganda.
The results
With our support, we helped a global systems distributor correct a shipping mistake which led to their high-value goods arriving in Kenya instead of Uganda.
We ensured all documentation and certificates were approved before arrival and freight was executed without issue.
By maintaining complete control over the export and import process, the high-value shipment arrived in Uganda quickly and was cleared at customs without delay.
